Transferring a domain name from one registrar to another requires you to unlock the domain name and obtain an Authorization Code (sometimes called EPP Code). You need to provide this code to the registrar where you are moving the domain name.
- Step 1. Log in to the control panel for your existing domain name registrar.
- Step 2. This step varies depending on the registrar you are currently using. You must unlock the domain name before a transfer can proceed. This option is generally available as a toggle switch. Once the domain name is unlocked, you can obtain the EPP Code.
- Step 3. At your destination registrar, choose to transfer a domain. You will need to provide the registrar with the domain name you wish to move and the EPP Code.
Transferring a domain name to a new registrar will require an additional one-year registration for the domain name. This term extends your existing ownership. For example, a domain name valid for six months will be yours for one year and six months following the transfer.
Domain name transfers can take anywhere between 24 hours up to a week to complete, depending on the registrars involved.
