What is a domain alias or a parked domain?

There are 3 types of domains in cPanel – main domains, addon domains and parked domains. In this article we will explain what are parked domains, how they work and how many you can add to your cheap web hosting plan. As a side note cPanel has changed how they call parked domains in the newer releases of cPanel and it is now called a domain alias.

The parked domain or the domain alias was created to allow the user to be able to add multiple domain names to their hosting account which would automatically load their main web site. That’s the web site uploaded under public_html. The parked domain has a full functionality. You just can’t upload a separate web site to it. If you want to add a new domain name and upload a separate web site then you would need to add the new domain as an addon domain instead. You will be able to forward the parked domain to a specific URL from cPanel if you want. You can create e-mail accounts, e-mail fowarders and autoresponders based on the parked domain.

No matter which web hosting plan you’ve signed up for you are able to add unlimited parked domains, create unlimited e-mail addresses, forwarders, auto-responders etc. You will also be able to forward the domain to another one if you want to.
